By Leo Brown,
You are the manager of a club and need to hire a new bartender, server, assistant manager, or security personnel. How do you know you are hiring the best person for the job? One way is to look for body language clues during the interview. It is said that the eyes are the windows to the soul. When someone asks us a question our brains search for the answer. If we have the information our brains retrieve it and our eyes look up and to our left. When we try to invent or create information our eyes look up and to our right. This can be very useful to a manager during a job interview. If the candidate is truthful their eyes will look up and to their left when telling the truth and up and to their right when lying.
A person’s hands can also reveal if they are being honest. When we tell the truth we tend to display our palms up and open. When we tell a lie we tend to have our palms facing down or closed. It is always better to see these body language clues in groups of two or three to confirm your suspicions. You can create more clues by simply asking more questions and observing the candidate’s body language. There are many more body language skills a manager can use to hire the best person for the job. Learning these skills can make your business more successful by decreasing employee turnover and hiring the best person for each job.
I am always available to help you be more successful through body language. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
